Trusted Contacts Card
One small card with the people and numbers you would call in an emergency, plus a code word, ready to screenshot or write on paper.
What you will need
- Person 1 (name and number) (contacts): Someone who would come or call for help.
- Person 2 (name and number) (contacts): Ideally someone who lives or works nearby.
- A code word or message that means 'I need help, call the police' (text): Agree it with your trusted people first.
- More detail: a neighbour, a safe place to go, your doctor or clinic, your counsellor (contacts): Add what is useful.
- More detail: emergency and helpline numbers (contacts): Pre-filled: SAPS 10111; Emergency from a mobile 112; Ambulance 10177; GBV Command Centre 0800 428 428; Suicide Crisis Helpline 0800 567 567; Childline 116; Cleared Mind Careline 0800 212 146.
How it works
Build a card: trusted contacts first, then code word, then pre-filled verified numbers (not editable, can be hidden by the member for safety). Offer 'print or copy to paper' prompt and 'save to phone contacts under a neutral name' tip. Remind: memorise at least one number.
What you get
- My trusted contacts card
What it means
- Helplines are a real starting point. Add a person when you feel ready.
- Make sure your trusted people know the code word and what to do when they get it.
Next step: Want help interpreting this? A Cleared Mind counsellor can help you think through who to trust, or call the Careline on 0800 212 146.
Runs on the device. Nothing is saved unless the member chooses. Option to save under a neutral title.
