  • Your age (years): Tax rebates are higher from 65 and 75.
  • Your monthly retirement fund contribution (R)
  • Number of people on your medical aid (you plus dependants) (people)
  • Your share of medical aid each month (R)
  • Other deductions (union, loans, funeral policy) (R)

How it works

Uses the SARS 2027 tax year table (1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027), checked against sars.gov.za; it must be updated after each February Budget. annual_gross = gross_monthly x 12. deductible_ret = min(retirement_contrib x 12, 27.5% of annual_gross, R430 000). taxable = annual_gross - deductible_ret. Tax before rebates: R1 - R245 100: 18%; R245 101 - R383 100: R44 118 + 26% above R245 100; R383 101 - R530 200: R79 998 + 31% above R383 100; R530 201 - R695 800: R125 599 + 36% above R530 200; R695 801 - R887 000: R185 215 + 39% above R695 800; R887 001 - R1 878 600: R259 783 + 41% above R887 000; above R1 878 600: R666 339 + 45% above R1 878 600. Rebates: primary R17 820, plus R9 765 from age 65, plus R3 249 from age 75 (tax threshold under 65: R99 000). Medical scheme fees tax credit: R376 a month for each of the first two people, R254 for each additional dependant. PAYE = max(0, tax - rebates - medical credits) / 12. UIF = 1% of salary up to R17 712 a month (at most R177.12). Take-home = gross - PAYE - UIF - retirement - medical aid share - other deductions. This is an estimate. Your payslip may differ because of fringe benefits, bonuses, travel allowances and employer-specific deductions.

What you get

  • Estimated PAYE (income tax) per month
  • UIF per month
  • Estimated take-home pay
  • Tax as % of gross
  • Your top tax bracket

What it means

  • Your income is below the tax threshold, so you should not pay PAYE; if you do, ask payroll.
  • Your payslip differs from our estimate; ask payroll to explain each deduction, or speak to a tax practitioner.
  • You are not contributing to retirement; contributions also lower your tax.
