Work can take a lot out of us, but it doesn't have to take everything. A few small, consistent habits can make a real difference to how you feel each day.

What it is

The Wellbeing-at-Work toolkit is a practical set of tools, exercises, and habits on Cleared Mind designed to help you manage the everyday pressures of work life, from tight deadlines and difficult conversations to long hours and low energy. Rather than one big fix, it's a collection of small, evidence-informed practices you can dip into depending on what your day needs: a two-minute reset before a meeting, a structured way to set boundaries, or a short reflection to close off your workday. The idea is to build wellbeing into your routine, not add it as another task on your list.

Signs to notice

It may be time to lean on this toolkit if you notice:

  • Feeling drained by mid-morning, even after a full night's sleep.
  • Struggling to switch off from work once you're home.
  • Irritability or shorter patience with colleagues, family, or friends.
  • Procrastinating on tasks that used to feel manageable.
  • A sense that you're always "on" and rarely get a proper break.
  • Physical signs of stress, like headaches, tension, or a tight chest before work.

What helps

  • Build in micro-breaks. Short pauses of a few minutes between tasks help your brain reset and reduce the build-up of stress across the day.
  • Use a start and end ritual. A consistent way to begin your workday (like a short planning list) and end it (like closing your laptop and naming three things you did well) creates clearer boundaries.
  • Practice saying no with structure. Use simple scripts, like "I can take this on, but something else will need to move", to protect your capacity without conflict.
  • Protect focus time. Block small chunks of your calendar for deep work and mute notifications during them, even just twice a week to start.
  • Move your body during the day. A short walk, stretch, or stair climb can lift mood and concentration more than another cup of coffee.
  • Check in with yourself weekly. A five-minute reflection on what drained you and what energised you helps you spot patterns before they become burnout.

When to reach out for help

Self-help tools are powerful, but they're not a substitute for support when things feel bigger than day-to-day stress. Reach out for professional help if you're feeling persistently overwhelmed, if your motivation or performance has dropped significantly, if you're dreading work most days, or if stress is affecting your sleep, relationships, or physical health. A professional can assess whether what you're experiencing is stress, burnout, or something else, and help you find the right way forward.
